Build your own rainwater harvesting basin in this free hands-on workshop! This workshop teaches you how to build swales in your landscape and install plants to reduce the cost of watering your landscape while contributing to local groundwater. All tools and supplies are provided. Please wear closed-toe shoes, hats, and sunscreen.
Anyone who attends this event will receive a free native tree, shrub, 2 grasses, wildflower seeds, a zine on how to build a basin, and a bag of mulch. This event is also a collaboration with Watershed Management Group.
We will specifically cover:
- What passive water harvesting is and its benefits
- When, where, and why to capture water passively
- Native plants that work well in our landscapes
- Step by step how to build a basin
- Tips and tricks on how to dig in our native soil
- The actual installation of a basin on site as a group
- Any general or context specific questions you may have
We’ll provide:
- a tree

- two grasses
- wildflower seeds
- A bag of mulch
- BYOB zine
- water
- first aid kit
Make sure to bring your own:
- water bottles
- hat
- gloves
- cardboard box for plants
- closed toed shoes
